Opera can’t get more epic than Wagner’s “Parsifal” (unless some company tries to stage the composer’s Ring Cycle at one go). It’s not always a picnic. But Bloomberg’s Manuela Holterhoff says the Metropolitan Opera’s 2013 production is about as good as it may ever get: “I fell under a spell. Time moved on and yet stood still. The ethereal music suffused us all. Sitting in our seats, we traveled far.” Jonas Kaufmann drew raves.
Kaufmann’s latest all-Wagner recording has also wowed listeners and critics.
