Good Classical’s founder and editor is John Marcom, an experienced print- and digital-media veteran.
Marcom, formerly a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, crossed to the business side of publishing and joined Time magazine’s Asian management in Hong Kong, eventually becoming President of Time Inc. International in 1999. He was senior vice president of Yahoo!’s international operations from 2003 to early 2007. From 2009 to early 2012 he was President of the U.S. unit of Future plc., a leading publisher of special-interest magazines and websites covering music, film, videogames, personal technology and other subjects.
Musical credentials? None, other than a lot of consumption that builds knowledge and understanding day by day, and enduring lust for the rare high of an astonishing performance.
Growing up in a small town in northeast Arkansas there weren’t many places to satisfy that. That would be very different today thanks to digital media, which is opening up vast new opportunities for audiences everywhere to experience the immediacy and emotion of live music. Marcom wants to find ways to make it easier for both audiences and performers to find each other in a fast-changing landscape of apps, gear, online stores and distribution platforms.
