Pictures at White Nights: Meet Alice Sara Ott

Alice Sara Ott is a young German-Japanese pianist who wowed audiences at 2012’s prestigious White Nights Festival in St. Petersburg with her performance of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.” “With long black hair, long arms and long fingers, she bestrides the keyboard, and plays with a weight of resonance and authority which belies her years and her slender frame,” Times of London critic Hilary Finch said of a 2010 performance. “There’s beauty, and mischief too, in her playing, which rings out with a freedom, fluidity and lack of contrivance which is entirely refreshing.”
